With the explosion of data being stored, the face of backup is rapidly changing. Historically, this configuration would have needed two 12-port controllers, occupying two PCI slots and each with its own parity disk. The Areca SATA II RAID 6 controller occupies a single PCI-X slot, and the user can create a RAID environment over up to 24 drives per RAID set and parity disks.
