Independent IT solutions provider, First Technology, has announced the next-generation Altiris 6 infrastructure solution. This product further integrates and automates IT asset procurement and ongoing management for reduced total cost of IT ownership.
John Thomas, Altiris general manager at First Technology, which represents Altiris in South Africa, says that this is most significant product release for Altiris in the last two years.

The Altiris 6 infrastructure now features a host of enhancements over previous product releases, includes adaptive usability; project or task-based console design; Altiris ADT which personalises the console for uncluttered management; and a user-customised console utilising Altiris `shortcut` technology.
Altiris 6 also features a number of security and server enhancements, and its role-based adaptive interface provides role-based access rights to Altiris functionality. This is in addition to the new release being 30% faster than before, and offering dynamic bandwidth throttling for software package downloads, and data compression for reduced network overhead.
"Altiris IT lifecycle management solutions not only address the challenges of IT deployment and migration, including software delivery and operations management, but they also reduce the total cost of owning IT. Existing customers with current annual upgrade protection can download and install Altiris 6 infrastructure at no additional cost," Thomas concludes.
