First WiMAX Forum Certified products available to Sub-Saharan Africa

Johannesburg, 22 Feb 2006

RapidCloud, Sub-Saharan distributor of Redline Communications broadband wireless equipment, has announced it will now supply the world`s first complete WiMAX Forum Certified WiMAX system to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Redline Communications, Canadian-based provider of standards-based broadband wireless equipment, received the WiMAX Forum Certified mark for its RedMAX Subscriber Unit (SU-O), an integrated customer premise device that enables broadband connections to business and residential subscribers. WiMAX Forum certification was also received for the RedMAX Base Station (AN-100U) on 19 January 2006. This makes Redline the first to offer a complete wireless broadband system in the world to be WiMAX Forum Certified.

"Adding the benefits of interoperability and compatibility to those of cost reduction and reduced complexity makes the viability of WiMAX sustainable," says Rapid Cloud CEO, Arnoud De Nooy. "Customers will be able to invest in the technology with the confidence, knowing that Redline products conform and cooperate in a framework of open standards."

Certification means a new competitive dynamic for broadband adoption, particularly in the underserved areas across Sub-Saharan Africa. By mid-2006, Redline Communications expects to see its current trials of product move to full-scale deployment.

"Being able to offer carriers, wireless ISPs and corporates a complete WiMAX Forum Certified wireless broadband system is a real breakthrough," says De Nooy. "Companies are already choosing Redline for the performance of its other backhaul products. With this certification, our customers will feel comfortable they have chosen a technology partnership that is at the front of the WiMAX revolution."
