Flat screen TV gases concerning
New greenhouse gases emitted in making flat-screen televisions or some refrigerants might be capped under a planned UN treaty to combat global warming, states Reuters Africa.
Emissions of the recently developed industrial gases, including nitrogen trifluoride and fluorinated ethers, are estimated at just 0.3% of emissions of conventional greenhouse gases by rich nations. But the emissions are surging.
"I think it's a good idea" to add new gases to a group of six already capped by the UN's Kyoto Protocol for slowing global warming, Yvo de Boer, head of the UN Climate Change Secretariat, told Reuters.
Police uniforms get audio-visual recorders
Police will get a new camcorder-like gadget for patrols, an audio-visual recorder attached to their shoulder to film an immediate record of any illegal activities or scuffles, says Korea Times.
Officials said they are considering supplying officers with the new device to produce unbiased records on the spot.
The VIDMIC device by the Utah-based EHS has similar functions as camcorders, but can be simply attached to a shoulder patch on the uniform with its 'eye' recording video and sound.
