Fujitsu Siemens Computers has announced FlexFrame for Oracle RE, a dedicated solution developed to consolidate Oracle services.
FlexFrame for Oracle RE from Fujitsu Siemens Computers is a simple, economic high-availability solution targeted at organisations looking for performance benefits and cost-savings from pulling together servers dedicated to Oracle services running on Oracle databases.
Through its unique N-plus-one protection system, FlexFrame for Oracle RE provides an automated, rapid system failover to safeguard both physical and virtual servers. A spare server is always ready to resume operations should a productive server go offline unexpectedly. As several productive servers share only one or a few spare systems (N-plus-one), high availability can be achieved for the whole server farm at much lower costs than a traditional cluster.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has worked closely with Oracle to develop FlexFrame for Oracle RE. Specially designed to run Oracle services, the system is delivered to customers pre-installed and pre-configured following individual customer needs. In addition to system consolidation, FlexFrame for Oracle RE offers enhanced database performance and availability through its support for Oracle Real Application Clusters, the simultaneous operation of databases across several servers.
Says Richard Sutherland, Dynamic Infrastructures Portfolio Manager at Fujitsu Siemens Computers: “FlexFrame for Oracle RE is ideal for businesses focusing on reducing operating costs and maximising IT performance, because it offers affordable high-availability as well as IT system consolidation. Furthermore, the built-in system redundancy provides the peace of mind of knowing that if any server fails, then the services will be back up and running - on a fresh server - within minutes.”
"Oracle and Fujitsu Siemens Computers have been working together in a global strategic partnership for more than 15 years," said William Hardie, Vice-President, Oracle Database Product Marketing. "Collaborating on products such as FlexFrame for Oracle RE means that we can offer our customers enhanced application performance alongside impressive scalability and fault tolerance and increased value from products and services that are fully integrated and compatible with our technology."
FlexFrame for Oracle RE - technical detail
FlexFrame for Oracle RE supports Linux operating systems and runs best with Oracle Enterprise Linux. The system is controlled by the FlexFrame for Oracle RE Control Centre, while Primergy BX Blade Servers and Primergy RX rack servers make up the underlying hardware. FibreCAT SX80 and SX88, FibreCAT CX and NetApp iSCSI SAN storage systems can be integrated, allowing the consolidation of user data and central storage of server operating boot images for server remote boot.
Available immediately, pricing is dependent on system configuration and starts at 80 000 euros without Oracle licences and storage system. Maintenance and support services are offered by Fujitsu Siemens Computers' SolutionContract, which includes a proactive remote system health check to identify and eliminate potential problems before they have an adverse effect on system performance, as well as reactive service support.
