Fontera expands US operations

Local mobile products and services company Fontera has sealed a deal with the US-based Infinity Group to provide back-end to five stations.

Called RadioTXT, the Web-based management system allows DJs presenting "top 40-type programmes" to run competitions, sweepstakes, dedications and other interactive aspects of radio.

The system also allows listeners to send an SMS to find out the name of the song or artist currently playing, or download a ringtone.

According to Fontera marketing director Simon Leps, Spark Services, a US-based company with which it recently signed a licensing agreement, facilitated the deal.

The contract sees Fontera making good on its strategy to expand its US operations to complement its European and South African offices.

"Infinity is part of the second largest radio group in the US, and therefore it is very important for us to have gotten our foot in the door."

Leps says one of the attractive features of RadioTXT is its ease of use. This allows DJs to manage their normal duties without worrying about the technical aspects of the system.

The first station, Wild 100.7 FM, went live with the system yesterday. Plans are under way to roll-out to more stations in the group should this initial deal be successful, he says.
