Food giant Kerry signs $2m supply chain deal with Agilisys

Johannesburg, 13 Aug 2003

Kerry Foods, one of the world`s leading food manufacturers, has signed with Agilisys for the sale and implementation of software and services worth more than $2 million.

Agilisys, represented locally by ApplyIT, will deliver its supply chain planning and optimisation solutions across nine sites following the successful installation of these products at its test-bed site at Burton, England.

Last November, Kerry signed a contract for $400 000 for software and services; the new deal involves an additional $524 000 of licence fees and $1.5 million of services, spread over a two- to three-year period. The next nine sites are spread across the UK and Ireland, and are in a variety of food businesses, ranging from dairy products (mainly cheese) to meat pies, ready meals, cooked meats and sausages.

The site at Burton makes ready meals and is a typical fast-paced, short-shelf-life food business, presenting the Agilisys implementation team with a challenging set of problems, which they resolved. A key aspect of the project was the ability to meet Kerry`s complex needs, and show how the Burton factory could enjoy significant returns on a supply chain project investment.

"Agilisys`s success at Kerry underscores the importance of supply chain excellence in large, complex food manufacturers," says Gavin Halse, MD of ApplyIT. "Agilisys is the only complete, end-to-end business solution focused exclusively on the complexities of the food, beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and related process industries, making it ideal for organisations as demanding as Kerry. SA`s many food giants also stand to benefit from Agilisys`s features and functionality, as we take them to market."

After more than three decades in business, Kerry Foods has become a leading provider of food, food ingredients and flavour products to customers in more than 80 countries. Its most recent annual revenues were 3.8 billion euros, with operating profit of 305 million euros.
