The annual Futurex Exhibition starts today at the Sandton Convention Centre, focusing on the information and communications technology and electronics (ICTE) industries.
Running until 20 May, the exhibition has attracted companies from several foreign countries, including Switzerland, the US, Taiwan, the UK, Namibia, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, India, Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand, China and Finland.
Organisers say the exhibition is ideally placed to help ICTE companies meet business delegates.
Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition, the South African Department of Communications today marks World Telecommunications Day, an international telecommunications initiative designed to help bring ICT access worldwide, by celebrating a World Telecommunications Week (WTW).
An ICT Pavilion at the Futurex Exhibition has grouped together all the industry associations (the CSSA, EIF, SACF, IISA, BITF, ITA and others) and special interest groups taking part in WTW, as well as the ICT empowerment charter.
Alongside the Futurex Exhibition, tomorrow will see the opening of the Futurex 2005 Conference, during which local and international professionals will tackle ICT business issues, and examine and discuss future directions and solutions for corporates and SMEs, within the context of current and future technologies.
Collocated with the Futurex Exhibition and Conference is the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo.
