ForgeAhead BMI-T is increasing its focus on ICT in government, with plans for a new Web site and an international convention on the subject, in partnership with the State Information Technology Agency (Sita).
The two-day international convention on ICT in government, to be held in July this year, is a key element of the proposed public private partnership (PPP) between ForgeAhead and Sita. The PPP is aimed at boosting transformation and capacity building in the South African ICT sector.
The international ICT convention and workshops will focus on the use of IT to enhance government service delivery. ForgeAhead co-managing director Simon White says the convention is intended to serve as a large-scale ICT forum for government ICT managers, presenting the latest related international benchmarking and case studies.
The keynote address will be delivered by a senior government official, who is likely to outline the government`s technology strategy for enhanced service delivery. Other high-profile speakers will include the Minister of Public Service and Administration, directors-general of the departments of Communications and Public Service and Administration, the chief director of the National Treasury, the CEO of Sita, IT managers from Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, and experts on e-government from Malaysia, the UK and Canada.
"We are planning to host a minimum of 500 delegates, 70%-80% of whom would be state and parastatal ICT managers from the respective tiers of government and the utilities," says White. The event will be staged on 17 and 18 July at the Sandton Convention Centre.
As part of the increased focus on ICT in government, ForgeAhead is also planning to enhance its annual ICT in Government Handook by combining it with a dynamic online research database, called the ICTinGovernment.co.za. Once operational, the database will feature ICT profiles on state departments, related articles, details of government departments and parastatals and information on ICT tenders. The proposed ICTinGovernment.co.za website will not be the first of its kind by ForgeAhead - the company also operates RealMakoi.co.za - which was recreated from the annually published Black IT Company Profile Monitor report.
