Former North West premier Popo Molefe has been appointed chairman of Xantium Technology Holdings, which is planning to list on the JSE's AltX exchange.

Molefe's wife, Bobbley Lamola, is already on the board in the position of group marketing director.

Xantium, a black-empowered full- IT company, aims to provide business and IT consulting solutions to government as well as parastatal, mining, financial, commercial and telecommunications sectors.

The company has raised about R9.5 million through private placements of shares and plans to raise another R5 million before its listing.

According to its prospectus, Xantium operates through three subsidiaries, namely Xantium IT Services (XITS), Xantium Consulting (XPS) and Xantium Card Systems (XDCS).

XITS is a products and services provider while XPS offers such services as business consulting, IT infrastructure consulting, systems management services, strategic partnering and others.

XDCS, which is 51% owned by Xantium, provides digital card-based solutions in partnership with DCS, a group with offices in the US, Peru and Germany.

Molefe was also recently named chairman of Anooraq, a Canadian platinum mining company which is planning a JSE listing once SA permits secondary listings here.
