Foster-Melliar students consistently produce quality results

Johannesburg, 13 Jun 2007

Two Foster-Melliar graduates have achieved double distinctions in the Managers' Certificate in IT Service Management exams.

Leon Du Preez and Christo Brits achieved the distinctions in the service support and service delivery modules of the course. Foster-Melliar, specialists in business service management, incorporating IT Service Management and ITIL, and has for over a decade produced the top SA student in IT Service Management training.

Leon Du Preez forms part of a dynamic arivia.kom team, where he heads up the command centre, which is predominantly responsible for infrastructure management.

Achieving the distinctions in service support and service delivery took "a lot of prayer, intense analysis of the case study in addition to the use of comprehensive mind maps", says Du Preez. "It is crucial during the exam to thoroughly understand the questions being asked, to comprehend who you are in the scenario put forward, to give structured answers with practical examples and to focus on the people," he adds.

Christo Brits, a Service Delivery Manager in the IT Systems Operations Division of Vodacom, also achieved a double distinction in both the service delivery and service support modules. "I approached the exams from a logical point of view, effectively combining the theoretical information provided in the course with practical experience," explains Brits. "The crucial aspect of the training course is the road map that it provides for transforming knowledge and experience into a workable application within the context of any unique business environment you may find yourself in."

"The Manager's Certificate in IT Service Management is an exceptionally advanced training programme and only enjoys a 50% pass rate worldwide. A double distinction on both modules of the course is an exceptional achievement. The Manager's Certificate in IT Service Management is structured to provide learners with the theory of IT Service Management and the know-how to implement this best practice across the IT organisation, resulting in improved IT service support and service delivery," says Ian Butow of Foster-Melliar.

"To make this training course practical in a work environment, it is crucial to understand the underlying principles behind it, which not only makes the theory logical, but greatly aids candidates to walk out of the classroom and into the workplace and to proactively apply these principles in their day-to-day activities," says Brits.

Says Du Preez, when asked to give any advice to future course attendants: "ITIL Service Management is not a foreign language or something separate to your business, it really works. It is important to draw from your practical experience and vital to listen to and learn from the trainers and fellow trainees.

"If you are passionate about the course, it will provide the drive and energy you will need to be successful in the achievement of your service management certification."
