FRAM SA first with Microsoft licence management programme

Johannesburg, 07 Mar 2001

First Technology Pietermaritzburg recently awarded a customer, FRAM SA, with the first Microsoft Licence Management Certificate in South Africa. Leading the way with this new Microsoft initiative, First Technology completed an extensive software audit at the Pietermaritzburg and Isando offices of FRAM SA, and, having demonstrated the adequacy of licences at both sites, a certificate of was awarded by Microsoft, the first of its kind in South Africa.

The Microsoft Licence Management Programme helps small and medium-sized businesses gain knowledge and control over software assets and recognizes those companies that are Microsoft software compliant. First Technology was appointed a in the programme at the end of 2000.

Together with an extensive audit of both the software installed base and the physical licences owned by FRAM SA, First Technology also assisted them with the inplemetnation of a software asset management strategy to ensure software compliancy is maintained in the future.

The complexities of software licensing can often prove confusing. Even the Business Software Alliance (BSA) admits that, "most of the BSA`s settlements are with good, reputable, well managed companies that simply have a blind spot when it comes to software asset management." First Technology boasts a national team of qualified and highly experienced software licence administrators who are able to assist customers in ensuring that the business software being used within their organisations is fully compliant with international regulations, as well as ensuring that software is properly managed, completely audited and licensed.

Vaughan Gerson, Technical Director at First Technology Pietermaritzburg announced that FRAM SA "passed the audit with flying colours".

"FRAM SA has been a loyal customer for a number of years and we were delighted to be able to assist them with the audit."

FRAM SA Financial Director, Rodney Naude, was presented with the certificates by Rob Matthews, First Technology Group MD, at a gala evening in Pietermaritzburg on 8th February. Naude praised both his own IT team and commended First Technology for working together so successfully on the project. The certificate issued by Microsoft SA will be honoured for a period of one year.
