New BlackBerry customers who are 8ta prepaid subscribers will receive a month's free BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) subscription upon activation of the service.
Telkom's mobile arm - and SA's fourth cellphone operator - announced this week that it would give the first 5 000 new BlackBerry prepaid customers free BIS for a month, on activation of their first BIS subscription.
Senior managing executive for 8ta, Amith Maharaj, says the popularity of BlackBerry handsets in SA and customers' need to “stay connected” prompted its latest BlackBerry offer.
8ta says the free one-month BlackBerry BIS will be automatically activated to apply during the second month of BIS subscription.
“Furthermore, customers will receive 500MB of free YouTube streaming per month with BIS activation.”
BIS provides users with access to the Internet, personal e-mail accounts, BlackBerry Messenger and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, as well as access to mobile applications on BlackBerry App World.
The “buy one, get one free” offer follows the recent launch of 8ta's BlackBerry prepaid voucher, which offers customers an inclusive BIS offering for six months as an alternative to the monthly R59 charge for the service.
