JSE-listed Square One Solutions Group, the sole Southern African distributor for products from international mass storage device manufacturer, Freecom Technologies, achieved a 400% increase in sales of Freecom products during 2001.
Sales of storage products for PC and Apple Mac systems and multimedia devices, totalled 477 200 euros (about R5 million) for calendar 2001, compared with 97 800 euros (about R1 million) achieved in 2000.
Liet Erpelinck, Freecom export manager Europe, Middle East and Africa, said the magnitude of the improvement in sales achieved in Southern Africa constituted a record for Freecom internationally.
"This was an amazing effort from Square One and it is also indicative of the way that markets are beginning to take off for external storage devices. The increasingly global nature of business requires people to travel more extensively and to make use of convenient, portable data storage products."
He added that Freecom's focus on the development of storage products that were smaller and faster, providing convenience, efficiency and portability, had paid off handsomely.
"We view Southern Africa as a good growth prospect and will continue to nurture our business in the region through Square One with the introduction of new technology and products."
