Faculty Training Institute (FTI), training leader in the domains of business and systems analysis, project management, enterprise architecture and testing in South Africa, is launching a bouquet of agile short courses this June. The comprehensive course portfolio covers the breadth and depth of the agile body of knowledge and focuses on the multiple role-players in the agile space.
“In keeping with the FTI training approach, the portfolio includes courses on all aspects of the agile discipline to allow delegates to build a broader qualification around their specific role in the agile space,” says Mike Eccles, a certified Scrum Master and FTI's Agile Programme Manager.
FTI's agile courses are tiered at different levels of expertise and are categorised as awareness, fundamentals and mastery level courses.
Offerings in the awareness category include a one-day Understanding Agile workshop and Professional Development seminars. Both the Understanding Agile course and tightly-focused awareness seminars aim to evoke interest and understanding of the role and impact of agile in organisations. “This mile-wide, inch-deep overview of agile ensures key role-players can see the big picture and debate issues and concerns of agile adoption,” says Eccles.
FTI's agile fundamentals programmes include a two-day Agile Fundamentals and three-day Scrum Bootcamp course. “Both courses cover the same knowledge and skills set, however, Agile Fundamentals explores the discipline from a generic, methodology independent approach and the latter examines agile from a Scrum perspective,” says Eccles. “The courses are designed to build competencies across all key roles in the agile development environment and provide the principles and practices that the agile team will need to be successful on projects.” The courses focus on team-based learning through interactive workshops. Participants will gain practical experience working with important agile work practices and deliverables.
“FTI's agile mastery courses are aimed at experienced Agilists. The initial course offerings in this suite include a two-day Writing and Managing User Stories, and one-day Agile Planning and Estimating course. The mastery courses have been designed to build in-depth, role-based competencies in specific knowledge areas.
“FTI's Agile course portfolio covers the breadth of the discipline, including soft skills, agile coaching, project management, testing and development practices and will ensure individuals and companies can adapt current work practices to become more agile and to participate effectively in tightly managed agile projects,” says Eccles.

Faculty Training Institute
Faculty Training Institute (FTI) was established in 1989 to provide affordable, practical and professional training of the highest standards to the IT industry. Starting with two Diploma courses, one in IS Project Management and one in Systems Analysis and Design, FTI's product range now encompasses a wide and growing range of programmes. These programmes serve the professional skills-development needs of a community that stretches much wider than just information technology. The modern world continues to shift towards a knowledge economy where old skills and paradigms become obsolete and new careers and roles emerge. These roles require multi-skilled individuals capable of high-order thinking and problem-solving skills, across a range of industries and knowledge domains.
FTI's strategy is to proactively identify these knowledge roles and create courses and programmes that define and support these roles. In the past 20 years, FTI has graduated thousands of knowledge professionals from its signature Diploma programmes, with many delegates returning to augment their skills by attending FTI's focused, intensive short courses. Its corporate client base now extends across southern Africa and includes numerous leading companies.
