More and more South African companies are looking to Agile software development methods to improve team efficiency, product quality and customer satisfaction. Over the last decade, Agile's popularity has shown consistent growth worldwide. While South African organisations were initially slow to adopt the 'Agile movement', all indications are that this growth will continue for years to come.
In response to this growing industry demand, Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is offering a series of Agile training courses that cover the breadth and depth of the Agile body of knowledge. The portfolio includes courses on all aspects of the Agile discipline to allow delegates to build a broader qualification around their specific roles in the Agile space. The courses have been categorised as awareness, fundamentals and mastery level courses.
Awareness courses are designed to evoke interest and understanding as to the role and impact of Agile in organisations. Their mile-wide, inch-deep overview of Agile ensures key role-players can see the big picture and debate issues and concerns. Awareness courses include 'Understanding Agile' (half- or one-day) and tightly focused seminars such as 'A Business Case for Agile' and 'The Agile Analyst'.
Fundamentals courses are designed to build competencies across all key roles in the Agile development environment and provide everything the Agile team will need to get started. Courses include 'Agile Fundamentals' (two days) and 'Scrum Bootcamp' (three days).
Mastery courses have been designed to build in-depth competencies in specific agile roles and knowledge areas and include 'Writing and Managing User Stories' (two days) and 'Agile Planning and Estimating' (one day).
To launch the Agile portfolio, FTI will be piloting a 'Scrum Bootcamp' and is giving IT professionals and companies the opportunity to participate in the pilot at a reduced price.
The three-day Scrum Bootcamp will provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of how to run an Agile project. The course enables delegates to understand their role within the Scrum team and equip them with the knowledge, skills and tools to successfully implement Scrum. These roles include the Product Owner, Scrum Master, team member and other peripheral stakeholders (users, SMEs, technical specialists and management).
The Bootcamp focuses on team-based learning to ensure all participants gain practical experience working with the important Scrum ceremonies and artefacts. Designed as a set of interactive workshops, the Bootcamp provides everything the Scrum team will need to get started.
There are no specific pre-requisites for the Bootcamp. However, in order to derive the best value from this course, delegates should have work experience that has exposed them to some aspects of the system development process.
Agile has entered the mainstream of software development and more organisations are seeking Agile Practitioners; individuals that have sufficient knowledge and expertise to unlock the full potential of iterative and Agile development.

Faculty Training Institute
Faculty Training Institute (FTI) was established in 1989 to provide affordable, practical and professional training of the highest standards to the IT industry. Starting with two Diploma courses, one in IS Project Management and one in Systems Analysis and Design, FTI's product range now encompasses a wide and growing range of programmes. These programmes serve the professional skills-development needs of a community that stretches much wider than just IT. The modern world continues to shift towards a knowledge economy where old skills and paradigms become obsolete and new careers and roles emerge. These roles require multi-skilled individuals capable of high-order thinking and problem-solving skills, across a range of industries and knowledge domains.
FTI's strategy is to proactively identify these knowledge roles and create courses and programmes that define and support these roles. In the past 20 years, FTI has graduated thousands of knowledge professionals from its signature Diploma programmes, with many delegates returning to augment their skills by attending FTI's focused, intensive short courses. Its corporate client base now extends across southern Africa and includes numerous leading companies.
