FTI underwrites SA's first successful business analysis conference

By Faculty Training Institute
Cape Town, 27 Sept 2012

South Africa's first annual business analysis conference, held in Johannesburg from 3 to 4 September 2012, was a spectacular success. The Business Analysis Summit Southern Africa (BASSA2012) conference attracted over 200 local and international business analysts from more than 80 organisations across the continent. FTI, a leading South African business and systems analysis training provider and EOH Group Company, was instrumental in helping to bring the first conference dedicated to the profession of business analysis to South Africa.

Described as the 'business analysis networking event of the year', the conference was presented by the South African Chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA-SA).

The IIBA is the independent, non-profit professional society for the growing field of business analysis and has branches throughout the world.

FTI was an original supporting organisation and Gold Sponsor of the event held in Johannesburg.

"We are pleased that we could provide support to the South Africa Chapter of the IIBA in its mission to promote the profession of business analysis in South Africa," says Steve Erlank, MD of FTI and BASSA2012 Conference Chair. "FTI has been at the forefront of promoting the profession of business analysis and has always sought to create opportunities for business analysts to network professionally. The useful revenue from the conference will take the work of the IIBA-SA Chapter forward," says Erlank.

The conference, themed "The Professional Business Analyst as an Enabler of Effective Business Change" provided a platform for all business analysts, and the leading organisations that employ them, to come together to debate and understand how the business analysis role can drive out business value, and support strategic business change.

The exciting BASSA2012 conference programme included four pre-conference workshops that focused on business analysis skills and career development. The two-day conference comprised three facilitated panel discussions and two tracks, led by 21 expert speakers. The tracks, which ran concurrently, focused on Business Analysis in the Organisation, and The Practice of Business Analysis and Professional Development of Business Analysts.

Conference highlights included two keynote addresses from the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) President, Kathleen Barrett, and Business Process Management guru, Robert Burlton. The closing speech was by acclaimed motivational speaker and environmental campaigner Lewis Pugh.

"The conference was a great forum for business analysts to participate in and a platform for BA's to network and develop their knowledge, skills and practice," concludes Erlank.

South Africa's second business analysis conference is planned for the third quarter of 2013.
