FTI's newest courses provide multi-skilling options for both project managers, business analysts

Faculty Training Institute (FTI), a leading training provider of business and systems analysis, project management, enterprise architecture and testing in South Africa, is launching brand new courses in business analysis, project management, and influencing skills, this May.

The PMI award-winning course, Project REAL: REAL Experience; Applied Learning, is an interactive three-day workshop that uses live project simulation that prepares delegates to make tough project decisions confidently and competently.

'Influencing Without Authority' is a two-day course that teaches delegates how to maximise a project's success by gaining co-operation from all stakeholders, even when they have no formal authority over them. The courses are aimed at both project managers and business analysts, and offer a multi-skilling option for either role.

The courses being held in Johannesburg and Cape Town are through the continued partnership with globally recognised, USA headquartered Watermark Learning. Watermark Learning is a training specialist in business analysis, project management and business process management. In a first-of-a-kind for South Africa, FTI, through its association with Watermark Learning, was able to host the CBAP Preparation Workshop in 2011.

“FTI is very proud to be able to continue its partnership with Watermark Learning, and to be able to bring these training programmes to the South African Market,” says Steve Erlank, MD of FTI.

“Like Faculty Training Institute, Watermark Learning is more than just a training company, but a trusted resource for business analysts and project managers who need assistance in their professional growth. Watermark Learning has a 20-year reputation. It fosters a unique blend of industry best practices, a practical approach, and engaging delivery,” says Erlank.

Project REAL - Real Experience; Applied Learning will be guided by Dayle Beyer, a senior instructor of Watermark Learning's business analysis and project management programmes. Beyer, who resides in the United States, holds Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP), Risk Management Professional (RMP) status and Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential.

“FTI is delighted at the opportunity to be able to host Dayle Beyer in South Africa for the pilot programme. Beyer has over 25 years of experience in both project management and business analysis and is a regular speaker, coach and facilitator at organisations around the world,” says PMP, Carol Mould, FTI Programme Manager and Lecturer.

“The course, aptly called Project R.E.A.L - Real Experience, Applied Learning, is an advanced course designed specifically for project managers and business analysts, which expands on delegates' previous learning and job experience in a robust, dynamic, and fast-paced environment using a hands-on, live project simulation. Students take part in a full project life cycle playing multiple roles (PM, BA, QA and development) and tackle multiple methodologies, core components of artefacts, tasks, and deliverables of a real project,” says Mould.

“While Project REAL is intended for experienced business analysts and project managers, attendees of all skill levels are encouraged to attend 'Influencing Without Authority'. Participants will learn how to establish enough influence over key stakeholders to get work done when they have no 'real' authority over them,” says Mould.

For information on the Project REAL course, commencing on 23-25 May, in Cape Town, and 28-30 May, in Johannesburg, or Influencing Without Authority, taking place in Cape Town on 20 May, or to view FTI's other programmes in association with Watermark Learning, please contact Lauren on 011 807 9478 or lauren@fti.co.za or visit www.fti.co.za.

Faculty Training Institute

Faculty Training Institute (FTI) was established in 1989 to provide affordable, practical and professional training of the highest standards to the IT industry. Starting with two Diploma courses, one in IS Project Management and one in Systems Analysis and Design, FTI's product range now encompasses a wide and growing range of programmes. These programmes serve the professional skills-development needs of a community that stretches much wider than just information technology. The modern world continues to shift towards a knowledge economy where old skills and paradigms become obsolete and new careers and roles emerge. These roles require multi-skilled individuals capable of high-order thinking and problem-solving skills, across a range of industries and knowledge domains.

FTI's strategy is to proactively identify these knowledge roles and create courses and programmes that define and support these roles. In the past 20 years, FTI has graduated thousands of knowledge professionals from their signature Diploma programmes, with many delegates returning to augment their skills by attending our focused, intensive short courses. Our corporate client base now extends across southern Africa and includes numerous leading companies.
