FTTH Council Africa launches industry event series in Africa

Johannesburg, 06 Jun 2016

This year the FTTH Council Africa will embark on a focused campaign to expand their activities across the continent.

Skills development programmes have been scheduled for East and West Africa, with a newly developed, two day 'Introduction to FTTx' training course being presented in Nairobi and Lagos in June and August respectively.

Each of these sessions will be followed by a one-day conference - a high level engagement workshop where representatives from government, regulators, operators, product manufacturers and installers will discuss challenges encountered in the market. Findings from the workshop will be compiled into a 'Regional Review' white paper.

'We aim to make these annual workshops' says Juanita Clark, FTTH Council Africa CEO. 'Ones where we can not only evaluate year on year progress, but also explore innovative solutions brought to light as the industry matures.'

'We believe these regional activities will initiate dialogue and engagement with a multitude of role players in the industry. But space is limited and we suggest that interested parties register sooner rather than later.' (Visit www.ftthcouncilafrica-conference.com/e-africa/)

The annual FTTH Council Africa Conference will build on these regional Workshops when it's hosted in Cape Town at the beginning of October. Themed 'The Future of Smart', communities and Home Owners Associations will be given the opportunity to discuss best practices and technologies with various operators and service providers.

Local, provincial and national government, as well as regulators from across the continent, will be invited to participate in this three day, fibre focussed think tank with more than 300 industry representatives in attendance. (Visit www.ftthcouncilafrica-conference.com)

FTTH Council Africa

The FTTH Council Africa was established in 2010 and is an independent, not for profit organisation and active member of the Fibre Council Global Alliance (FCGA) alongside the FTTH Council Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, Middle East and North Africa. The FTTH Council Africa believes that the development and deployment of fibre based broadband access networks will enhance the quality of life for Africans and provide African countries with an infrastructure that will increase their effectiveness and competitiveness within the global marketplace.

Through consultation with major stakeholders and understanding their strategies and concerns, we endeavour to be the voice of the industry and to help create a better future for all involved. In turn we support government with issues such as policy and regulation, best practice and minimum standards through an independent voice. We encourage dialogue between government and private sector from a platform that is independent and product agnostic. (Read more http://ftthcouncilafrica.com/)
