Fujitsu today announces that ETERNUS LT Tape Libraries now maximise capacity and speed of retrieval of backed-up or archived data at a significantly lower media cost than using disk storage alone, thanks to supporting the latest generation of standardised Linear Tape-Open technology, LTO-6.
Businesses following a mixed-media strategy continue to enjoy the advantages that tape is often safer to use as a storage medium as it is offline, and so can't be infected by a destructive virus or Trojan, and is more fault-tolerant than an array. With no absolute data storage limit for any given infrastructure, tape is often a more flexible choice for smaller businesses.
The affordable ETERNUS LT tape systems offer impressive scalability and reliability. Highly automated, simple and remote operation enables usage without any demand for local expert skills. LTO-6 drives can hold up to 2.5 terabytes natively or 6.25 terabytes of compressed data. Compared with previous-generation LTO-5 drives, the new LTO-6 technology offers more than double capacity (with compression) and a 40% performance boost.
