Xhead = Fujitsu extends £34m police contract
CRN.
PSNI signed Fujitsu in 2008 to oversee a wide-scale overhaul of its IT infrastructure, including the roll-out of computers, telephony and LAN networks, as well as service desk capabilities.
The company says the contract has now been extended by three years to 2016, which adds a further £19 million to the total value of the deal.
Guardian.co.uk reveals John Tully, head of information and communication services at PSNI, says: “PSNI requires a solid ICT infrastructure that can be relied upon in mission-critical situations, and Fujitsu's extensive management of our services has surpassed our expectations in this respect.”
According to ComputerWeekly, Fujitsu has consolidated five separate IT services into one managed service. Over 9 000 police PCs and laptops are managed by Fujitsu and a 24/7 on-site support desk is in place.
Channel Pro reveals that Anthony Pipe, acting MD of Fujitsu UK and Ireland government division, adds: “As this extension further expands the scope of Fujitsu's provision, we are confident we can bring similar improvements to new applications within the PSNI's ICT operations.”
