Fujitsu introduces Lifebook S6010

Johannesburg, 24 Jun 2002

As a successor to the current Lifebook S-5582/ S-5586 models, Fujitsu Siemens Computers today introduced the Lifebook S6010. The S6010 is a 13.3-inch ultraportable notebook for mobile business warriors.

Weighing only 1.71kg, the thin and stylish Lifebook S6010 is Fujitsu Siemens Computers lightest modular notebook with a modular bay concept ready for all forms of wireless computing.

The notebook is powered by an Intel Mobile Pentium III Processor-M at 1GHz with SpeedStep Technology enabling up to five hours of battery life with a second battery. The modular bay concept allows flexible functionality at low weight and small form factor. It accepts either a Combo Drive (CD/DVD/CD-RW), CD-, DVD-, CD R/W-drive, a second hard disk up to 30GB, or an additional battery.

The Lifebook S6010 is available in two versions: The standard base unit offers an integrated WLAN aerial for easy connection to corporate networks. The Bluetooth base unit integrates WLAN and Bluetooth access for additional short-range wireless communication. Both versions have LAN- and FireWire-Terminals on board. Intelligent mobile manageability tools from Fujitsu Siemens Computers help to reduce the day-to-day operating costs and enable easy administration even in mixed IT-environments.

Security is a key concern for business professionals who rely on mobile computing. The Lifebook S6010 shares the approved Lifebook cross-platform security features for data security and access protection. The integrated SmartCard reader allows substantial functions like access protection and secure log on/off, password manager, HBCI-client, GSM-card manager and roaming functionality with additional software. When activated, the standard security panel boots the system only if the correct PIN code has been entered.

Dino Kondos, Fujitsu Siemens Computers` Product Manager - Professional Products, says: "We are fully committed to providing companies with greater mobility - whether an employee is working from home, in an office or on the move.

"Wireless LANs complete the comprehensive Fujitsu Siemens Computers` mobility portfolio, which also includes powerful notebooks and Bluetooth-enabled devices, offering companies of all sizes more flexible office network capabilities. With a wireless LAN costs associated with cabling and installation are minimised. The relative ease and freedom of movement associated with wireless connectivity provides considerable cost savings because smaller companies can avoid the expensive option of constantly rewiring offices to cater for their expanding businesses."
