Fujitsu has extended its global partnership with NetApp, which will see the companies provide more tightly integrated and storage and solutions.

This forms part of Fujitsu's tight alliance , which will see it partner with specialist companies. This proposed network of partnerships is expected to allow Fujitsu to deliver on its new dynamic infrastructure focus, which has seen the company extend its portfolio beyond simply providing IT products and services.

Commenting on the tight alliance approach, senior VP Benno Zollner stated Fujitsu started the journey about a year ago. “We decided to use the economic climate to invest and develop the new portfolio.”

With the move to business services, Fujitsu found it needed to understand the needs of its customers and has made extensive use of consultants and experts in specific fields, said Zollner, who delivered a keynote address at the VISIT 2009 conference, in Munich, Germany.

The extended partnership with NetApp is intended for the companies to leverage each other's expertise, with the idea being that the partners will jointly develop integrated products and services, specifically in the areas of virtualisation, storage and data management, and storage services and solutions.

Fujitsu and NetApp believe the partnership would enable customers to derive greater value and efficiencies from their “dynamic infrastructures”.

The partnership will work towards integrating NetApp's storage management software into Fujitsu's resource management framework, which dynamically orchestrates servers, networks, storage and software into logical system platforms to run applications on demand.

The companies have also announced their aim to implement a global joint go-to-market strategy, which involves complementary products. Also, the two confirmed the full integration of NetApp V-series with Fujitsu's Eternus storage systems.

Fujitsu CEO and president Kai Flore stated: “We introduced our dynamic infrastructure portfolio a year ago as the cornerstone of Fujitsu's global IT portfolio. NetApp's strengths in unified storage align perfectly with our Eternus SAN and storage software, creating a joint comprehensive storage portfolio to meet customers' needs.”
