Rectron has announced the availability of Fujitsu`s latest in desktop storage hard drives. The PB MPF3204AT provides an incredible 20,4 Gb formatted storage capacity across only two platters.
According to Dean Prinsloo, product manager at Rectron, the technology features have been cost optimised and include an innovative motor, actuator arm and a pre-amp design. The drive features modular logic written in C++ as well as a reduced chip count. These new architecture and design enhancements have allowed Fujitsu to achieve maximum efficiency without compromising functionality.
"The drives are aimed at the low-cost PC and consumer electronics markets, offering an excellent storage solution with optimal performance, reliability, low noise and competitive specifications," says Prinsloo.
Internal data transfer rates are a blistering 37,8Mb per second, access times are under 9,5 ms and the aerial density is 7,8Gb per square inch. This makes these drives optimised for high-speed access to large files such as digital audio or video, movies, animation, Internet caching and other data-intensive entertainment and business applications.
A new top cover design first introduced on Fujitsu`s mainstream desktop series reduces sound levels making the drive ideal for home-entertainment applications.
The drive includes Fujitsu`s silent drive technology, which is an engineering solution to one of today`s most significant problems facing hard drive manufacturers - acoustic noise.
"By utilising a combination of fluid bearing technology, specially designed acoustic damping materials and silent mode drive control firmware, we can offer 3.5 ATA interface drives with a noise level at an impressively low 22dBA," says Prinsloo.
A non-operating shock tolerance of 250Gs enables these drives to offer peak performance and data protection capabilities.
