Fujitsu Siemens Computers adds pen-tablet computers to mobility portfolio

Johannesburg, 30 May 2002

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has broadened its Mobility portfolio with the acquisition of Fujitsu Personal Systems (FPS), the European subsidiary of Fujitsu PC Corporation USA.

The FPS product range has been integrated into Fujitsu Siemens Computers` mobility product offering adding pen-tablet computing to its range of solutions for enterprise customers.

The complete range of mobility devices includes notebooks, pen-notebooks, PDAs and pen-tablet computers. The incorporation of FPS into Fujitsu Siemens Computers strengthens the company`s focus on Mobility in line with its stated strategic focus on Mobility and Business-Critical computing.

"Adding pen-tablet computers to our range substantially strengthens our mobility portfolio," says Mark Wilson, Managing Director of Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "Market indications are that the demand for pen-based systems will increase substantially in the coming years, with these light, portable computers achieving a significant market share in the mobility segment in the next five years."

Pen-tablet computers are ideal for users who travel a lot and who have little opportunity to set up their computers or notebooks. The small portable PCs can be operated using a pen while standing or even while walking. Suitable for a multitude of mobile applications, such as medical, logistics, contracting and merchandising, pen-tablet computers provide an ideal mobile solution.

The most popular pen-tablet computer in the FPS range is the Fujitsu Stylistic LT P600. This ultralight Pen Tablet PC weighs just 1.2kg. It is 24cm by 16cm in size, and has a 600MHz Pentium 3 processor, a 15GB hard disc, a TFT monitor designed specially for outdoor use, and a battery life of 4.5 hours.
