Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT vendor, has unveiled the industry's first dynamic, self-managing technology platform for Microsoft-based computing: Dynamic IT for Microsoft - targeted at larger midsize companies and the large enterprise - combines Fujitsu Siemens Computers' fully-virtualised PRIMERGY BladeFrame servers with Microsoft Operations Manager, a central management tool for Windows-based applications. This concept provides data centre managers with greater system flexibility and enables them to ensure their IT infrastructure continually achieves the highest levels of availability to match varying resource demands.
Created to provide greater computing peace-of-mind for companies whose businesses depend on extensive use of Windows-based applications such as SQL Server, Exchange and SAP, the highly-configurable Dynamic IT for Microsoft from Fujitsu Siemens Computers is the industry's first self-managing technology that adapts dynamically to changing IT resource requirements, both today, and tomorrow.
Computing resources can easily be switched around to continually meet an organisation's greatest needs at any given time - with resources reconfigured within minutes to easily cope with peaks and troughs in a working day, and even month-end cycles. Dynamic IT for Microsoft is a self-managing solution which autonomously monitors application and system performance and consequently makes rules-based decisions to proactively reallocate computing resources, providing maximum system responsiveness and availability at all times.
Microsoft Operations Manager continually monitors complete system performance in areas including CPU and memory usage, network load, error counts, hard disk space, network response times, and provides application awareness by tracking application-specific responses such log file, event log entries and running threads. Monitoring this information allows an intelligent, dynamic response to system alerts. Instead of an SNMP warning triggering simply an alert that normally requires IT administrator intervention to avoid system slowdown or even failure, an appropriate action based on predefined rules is automatically initiated - such as bringing a higher-capacity server online. Furthermore, unused capacity can be reclaimed when demand falls.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers Chief Technological Officer Dr Joseph Reger says: "Today we are addressing a key customer need in building the Dynamic Data Centre: the need for end-to-end flexibility. Through dynamically matching the best combination of system resources with real-time application needs, Dynamic IT for Microsoft from Fujitsu Siemens Computers simplifies complexity to cope with the ever-changing computing requirements of our customers. We deliver the industry's first data centre grade solution that combines application level monitoring and optimisation with system level virtualisation and provisioning."
"Microsoft and Fujitsu Siemens Computers share a common vision that the data centre of tomorrow must be dynamic and self-managing," said Kirill Tatarinov, corporate vice-president in Microsoft's Windows & Enterprise Management Division. "The goal of Microsoft's Dynamic System Initiative is to help our customers turn IT into self-managing dynamic system.
