Fujitsu Siemens Computers announces ultra-high-end workstation with AMD Opteron processor, two PCI Express graphics interfaces

Munich, 31 Aug 2005

Even faster and the most silent of its class: Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European IT manufacturer and market leader in Germany, today announced its new ultra-high-end workstation CELSIUS V830.

The dual-processor workstation is based on AMD64 technology and includes two PCI Express x16 interfaces supporting the full bandwidth of the latest graphical subsystems.

With the market launch of the CELSIUS V830, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is the first manufacturer in the world to offer the new and significantly more powerful ultra-high-end NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card with SLI technology. Depending on the applications in which it is used, the intelligently conceived new housing design enables the noise level to be cut by around 50%.

Ergonomics and environmental compatibility

Customer surveys conducted by Fujitsu Siemens Computers have shown that lower noise levels are right at the top of customer wish lists with regard to workstations.

In its new CELSIUS models, Fujitsu Siemens Computers therefore paid particular attention to reducing noise levels, optimising both the housing design and thermal management accordingly. The result: the most silent dual Opteron processor workstation.

Housing, power supply and system board of the CELSIUS V830 already meet the stringent requirements set forth in the EU directive RoHS (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment). Modular components such as hard disks and optical drives will likewise be RoHS compliant by the end of 2005. According to the RoHS Directive, after the first of July 2006 the sale of devices which exceed certain threshold values - eg for lead, mercury or cadmium - is prohibited in all member states.

Typical application areas

The CELSIUS V830 was developed with particular focus on compute-intensive, multiprocessor-optimised applications. Typical application areas include:

* Design and engineering (CAD, CAE, EDA)
* Digital content creation, visualisation and virtual reality
* Scientific (medical, pharmaceutical, genetic engineering, geophysical research)
* Software development
* Finance

It goes without saying that the CELSIUS V830 is certified for all commonly used ISV software applications.

Technical highlights:

* New housing ensures drastic noise level reduction by around 50%
* AMD Opteron processor 252 or 254 (single core) or 265, 270 or 275 (dual core)
* One or two ultra-high-end professional OpenGL graphics cards
* NVIDIA Quadro FX4500 graphics card with full-speed SLI
* Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
* System management with DeskView
* Rack-mounting kit Fujitsu Siemens Computers
