Fujitsu Siemens Computers launches LIFEBOOK P Series

The world`s lightest fully-equipped notebook
Johannesburg, 24 Jun 2004

A particular class of notebook computers are classified "ultraportable", primarily due to their light weight and small form factor. To achieve this classification, units have traditionally had to go without a modular bay, which has been a shortcoming as this has meant a trade-off against functionality and flexibility.

The new LIFEBOOK P7010 from Fujitsu Siemens Computers puts an end to this shortcoming, and is available with the options of a combo drive; a multi standard DVD burner or an additional battery. The system weighs only 1.3kg and, with dimensions of 19.9cm x 26.1cm, fits easily into a handbag.

Mobile professionals will undoubtedly appreciate these features, but the LIFEBOOK P7010`s light and elegant design makes it particularly appealing to the modern businesswoman. Travellers can watch DVD videos on high-quality display, burn files on to CD or DVD, or do other cable-free work for up to 10.5 hours with the extra battery.

People who travel often need to be productive anywhere and anytime, and thus value ultraportables for their light weight, long battery life, and the capability they give one to perform essential tasks both in the office and on the road (IDC**). The LIFEBOOK P Series from Fujitsu Siemens Computers fulfils all these needs, and includes DeskView software to support the safe integration of the system into the corporate network and ensure easy software updating.

LIFEBOOK P7010, S7010 developed for mobile professionals

The LIFEBOOK P7010 enhances the existing range of premium LIFEBOOK Series from Fujitsu Siemens Computers, which offers the ideal mobile system for any application scenario.

An example of the typical LIFEBOOK P7010 customer is the businesswoman requiring a high-quality and stylish electronic travel companion that fits easily into her carry-on luggage. At 1.8kg, the (already available) LIFEBOOK S7010 is another member of the ultraportable family, which, in addition to its modular bay, also features an ergonomic 14.1-inch TFT display.

Size and design

The LIFEBOOK P Series is the world`s smallest and lightest notebook with an ultra-slim modular bay. This concept gives the user a choice of working with an additional drive or second battery. The magnesium cover, silver function keys and the brilliant widescreen display make this system an attractive lifestyle product.

Administration, integration into corporate network

The LIFEBOOK P7010 was conceived and developed for mobile professionals - a group requiring easy access to their corporate IT system at any time. Fujitsu Siemens Computers helps these users by supporting corporate notebook rollouts. With its made4you programme, the company even delivers customised and preconfigured systems: take them out of the box and they are ready to go. DeskView software from Fujitsu Siemens Computers and other supporting programmes from partner Altiris make simple work of operating system updates. Ghost and Nero software are included for fast and user-friendly backups as well as convenient DVD burning.

Security

To prevent unauthorised notebook access, Siemens Fujitsu Computers offers password-protected hard disk drives, BIOS and operating systems. The LIFEBOOK P7010 can also be secured with a Kensington lock to prevent physical theft.

Service

The LIFEBOOK P Series is solidly and meticulously built. Nonetheless, should problems occur, they can usually be detected and corrected via remote administration. The availability of replacement parts is guaranteed for the next five years. In addition, all systems come with a three-year global warranty. Optional warranty services, such as unit replacement within a few days, are also available.

A complete workplace system

Despite its miniature size and weight, the LIFEBOOK P7010 offers outstanding performance. External display, keyboard, mouse and power supply can be easily connected at the office, and the system`s interfaces support the LIFBOOK P7010`s many application capabilities, such as integrated FireWire, USB 2.0, SD/MMC/MS, CF and PC card, line out, dual band WLAN and even S-Video Out and SPDIF. The USB Port Replicator opens up additional connection options. As with other LIFEBOOK Series, numerous accessories are also available for the LIFEBOOK P Series.

Memory/hard disk drive

This small notebook comes with up to 1GB of DDR SDRAM, while hard disk drives are available with 60GB and 80GB capacity.

Battery The Intel Pentium M Ultra-Low Voltage (ULV) Processor is easy on the powerful built-in 6 cell Li-Ion rechargeable battery. As a result, the LIFEBOOK P7010 can run uninterrupted for up to 10.5 hours with its second battery installed. (Operating times vary by model, configuration, application, power management settings and individual work habits.)
