Fujitsu Siemens Computers moves to the front of mobile sales

Global manufacturer leads in EMEA
Johannesburg, 20 Feb 2006

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has strengthened its position within the global mobile technology space by selling more tablet PCs and convertibles within Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) than any other manufacturer in 2005.

The latest available mobile and wireless technology is available to the local market through Annex Distribution.

According to Canalys, EMEA, Tablet PC Market in January 2006, Fujitsu Siemens Computers posted sales of almost 40 000 tablet PCs and convertibles in 2005. This amounted to 60% year-on-year growth and a 25% market share.

"These figures show that we are the undisputed frontrunner in the market for pen-based tablet PCs and convertibles," said Peter Esser, Executive Vice-President of Volume Products and Supply Operations at Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "With more than 20 years of experience in this field and a large base of satisfied customers, we have now set our sights on developing products and solutions that are even more customer-friendly, flexible and lightweight."

Fujitsu Siemens Computers` product portfolio includes models within the STYLISTIC and LIFEBOOK series, for example the STYLISTIC ST503x series, LIFEBOOK P1510 Convertible as well as the T4010 Tablet PC.

The STYLISTIC ST503x series is specially designed for working on one`s feet. These devices are light, thin and robust, with a brilliant display that enables user-friendly operation both in and out of the office. Connectivity via the WiFi-certified 802.11 b/g standard, IrDA, Bluetooth and Intel Centrino mobile technology delivers the flexibility to work without interruption for up to nine hours.

The STYLISTIC ST5032 features a brilliant 12.1-inch display with anti-reflective coating that is ideal for indoor operation but also works outside. An integrated fingerprint sensor and trusted platform module (TPM) provide maximum security.

The STYLISTIC ST5031, meanwhile, is optimised for outdoor usage, featuring a special anti-reflective 10.4-inch screen with frontlight that enables work or play even in direct sunlight.

At only 1kg, the LIFEBOOK P1510 Convertible is the lightest convertible notebook in its class. The full notebook and tablet PC functionality make it the ideal mobile companion for business trips, field staff and vertical markets such as healthcare or insurance. It features a top-quality 8.9-inch screen and battery life that can be upgraded to allow up to eight-and-a-half hours of operation. Passive digitiser technology means any stylus can be used to operate the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. An integrated fingerprint sensor, meanwhile, provides additional security and convenience.

"This is a very positive development for Fujitsu Siemens Computers. It has reinforced the company`s global reach within the mobile and wireless space and is proof that the demand for greater performance, affordability and accessibility through technology is being met," says Jason Gibb, Fujitsu Siemens Computers Product Manager at Annex Distribution. "Devices like the T4010 Tablet PC and the LIFEBOOK P1510 have caught the attention of digital enthusiasts and mobile professionals and we look forward to extending this reach further into Africa."
