Fujitsu Siemens Computers refining IT requirements at Mossgas

Johannesburg, 11 Jan 2002

Enterprise Commerce Systems (ECS) Southern Cape has won a substantial contract for the supply of Fujitsu Siemens Computers hardware at the high-quality liquid fuels and associated products refinery, Mossgas.

The R2.5 million purchase of 300 SCENIC D desktop workstations is a substantial vote of confidence in the Fujitsu Siemens Computers brand.

Mossgas, in conjunction with its outsourcing partner Siemens Business Systems (SBS) decided to replace 300 existing Pentium 1 computers with this hardware from Fujitsu Siemens, and is presently considering standardising on the Fujitsu Siemens Computers brand for all future desktop hardware replacement.

SBS contract manager Coligny Nel in conjunction with channel partner, Enterprise Commerce Systems (ECS) Southern Cape managing director Robbie Robbetze introduced the brand into Mossgas.

"Mossgas were experiencing difficulties with their notebooks and they were looking for alternative options. We introduced the Fujitsu Siemens Computers LIFEBOOK and after extensive testing, Mossgas decided to standardise on these."

Mossgas now issues the LIFEBOOK as its standard notebook and is presently "refreshing" all notebooks in issue. The success achieved with the LIFEBOOK range created the opportunity to introduce more hardware from Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

"On hearing that Mossgas was looking to upgrade their desktop and workstation hardware, I submitted the SCENIC D and SCOVERY XS for evaluation," says Robbetze. "The roll-out of the desktop and workstation solutions is extremely exciting as this has long-term implications for ECS."

Siemens Business Systems was recently awarded the six-year IT outsourcing contract at Mossgas. Nel elaborates on the IT selection process: "We have committed to stringent adherence to service levels and thus have to be exceptionally particular about the systems we select. Fujitsu Siemens Computers were benchmark tested alongside several other leading brands and emerged as the leading brand in the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) tests. Additionally, the interchangeability from standalone desktop to thin client and vice versa, shows an unprecedented level of far-sightedness, and is important to our ability to cost-efficiently meet our contractual obligations."

Fanus van der Sandt, Channel Manager at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, says: "It is vitally important for us to ensure that the channel partners representing us are committed to perpetuating the brand and ensuring our penetration into key accounts. ECS has achieved exceptional results, having built client confidence in our brand, and is starting to reap the rewards for their commitment to Fujitsu Siemens Computers."
