Fujitsu Siemens is targeting small businesses and large enterprises with its new solutions, which come as an optional extra with its business line of notebooks.

The loss of hardware due to is difficult for small to medium enterprises (SMEs), as they purchase so few notebooks, the company says.

More than 50% of business travellers have confidential company information on their notebooks, and 65% do not take any security precautions against loss or theft, it adds.

Fujitsu Siemens portfolio manager Monique de Klerk says the company is adding features to its notebooks. "Dialogue with our customers and our own surveys have shown us that data security is one of the major concerns for company IT managers, especially when it comes to implementing a mobility strategy."

On the move

The optional security solutions, SystemTrack and DataProtect, will be released in the first quarter of 2009, and will give organisations the benefits of tracking stolen or lost hardware, Fujitsu Siemens says. They will also have the option of saving or deleting data in the system's hard disk via a centrally operated remote control.

SystemTrack can be used to locate a stolen or lost notebook once it has been connected to the Internet or an Intranet. Sensitive information can be secured using DataProtect, which allows an organisation's support office to access a notebook's system and save it on the central database.

Fujitsu Siemens says it is one of two computer manufacturers in EMEA to offer this security solution. It is the only one that can integrate the solutions in a separate portfolio of services and solutions that cover all aspects of security, the company concludes.
