Fujitsu today announced the validated integration of the Fujitsu ETERNUS CS800 de-duplication data protection appliance with Symantec NetBackup, via the Symantec OpenStorage (OST) Application Programming Interface (API).
With a growing number of medium-sized businesses making the switch from tape to disk-based backup, the tighter integration of the ETERNUS CS800 with Symantec NetBackup will provide medium-sized enterprise customers with a powerful disk-based backup solution that is also flexible and easy to manage. NetBackup is especially suited to organisations needing to back up large amounts of data in the shortest possible timeframe.
This development is another building block in Fujitsu's Efficient Data Protection portfolio for medium-sized and large enterprises, which enables customers to create, implement and maintain future-proofed dynamic infrastructures tailored to their data protection needs.
The Fujitsu ETERNUS CS800 data protection appliance with de-duplication can be fully managed by Symantec NetBackup, thanks to the introduction of the OST API. This allows for faster backups to the ETERNUS CS800 as well as the options of storing to tape for longer-term retention requirements, and replication to another system for disaster protection.
As a result, medium-size customers with data-intensive operations can now manage their data protection more easily and intelligently by tiering backup data according to importance and retention requirements. Centralised ETERNUS CS800 management via NetBackup also reduces administration, and the native interface provides for faster backups than using NAS.
“We're putting the newest de-duplication technology together with one of the leading backup software products to create a compelling opportunity for data-intensive mid-market businesses looking at the benefits of making the switch from tape to disk backup,” says Leon Leibach, Portfolio Manager - Storage at Fujitsu. “The ETERNUS CS800 together with NetBackup via the OST interface is an incredibly powerful combination of class-leading technologies that really deliver a performance edge. And as we know, in the world of backup, speed is king.”
“The strategic alliance between Fujitsu and Symantec focuses on helping our joint customers reduce complexity and improve performance,” said Brian Dye, vice-president of product management, Information Management Group, Symantec. “NetBackup, in combination with Fujitsu's ETERNUS CS800, will provide customers with a powerful, easy-to-manage disk-based data protection solution without sacrificing advanced functionality.”
