Fulcrum Business Solutions has recently completed Southern Africa`s first enterprise process management (EPM) solution at Barloworld Robor.

The solution is configured according to the DMAIC (design, measure, align, improve and control) Six Sigma methodology.

Fulcrum business analyst Nadia Pistorius says the solution not only focuses on process management, as a normal EPM solution would, but is also aligned to the DMAIC industry standard.

"The EPM solution is configured to align resource and business activities with strategic objectives. Key stakeholders make use of this strategic and business benefits model, built into the management provider (MSP) and Project Web Access to decide which projects to focus on or even which projects should continue and which should be terminated," she says.

Pistorius explains that Barloworld Robor was seeking a solution to allow it to make strategic decisions based on a dashboard view of intent projects, track the progress of Six Sigma projects and them proactively, as well as have a central document repository.

The project was also aimed at standardising Barloworld Robor`s documents for Six Sigma projects, as well as at creating a centralised resource pool which provides a skills database.

"During the 'requirements analysis` phase we focused on what Barloworld`s DMAIC Six Sigma methodology entailed and how we can configure EPM to address those needs," Pistorius says.

"Some of the key business and technical challenges faced by Barloworld Robor was that the group had a good understanding and training in Six Sigma methodology, but not in project management. There was also a lack of MSP and EPM toolset training and no dashboard view that provided the status of Six Sigma project progress."

The project was launched in November last year, and completed in six months. The project, Pistorius adds, is currently in the mentoring phase and Fulcrum will provide support services thereafter.
