Fusion-io doubles SSD capacity
Fusion-io, which makes handheld-sized solid-state storage arrays for enterprise systems, revealed a product called ioDrive Duo, which doubles the capacity of Fusion-io's PCI Express-based ioDrive storage array, eWeek reports.
The company is billing the ioDrive Duo as the "fastest server-based solid-state storage" package available.
Performance for multiple ioDrive Duos scales linearly, the company says, allowing an enterprise IT system to scale performance to 6GB per second of read bandwidth and more than 500 000-read IOPS by using four ioDrive Duos.
Sun plans SSD server expansion
Sun Microsystems says it now has solid state drives (SSDs) available for certain of its x64 and CMT rack-mount and blade servers, according to ChannelWeb.
The news marks the first in a series of Nand-based flash memory releases to come before June, according to channel sources.
Instead of just adding a Sata or Sas interface to a SSD and putting it in a server, Sun is actually designing its servers around the Nand technology, according to a Sun solution provider who asked to remain anonymous.
