Futurex 2007 kicks off

Johannesburg, 16 May 2007

The Johannesburg leg of Futurex & Equip kicked off yesterday at the Sandton Convention Centre, showcasing wares from upward of 150 exhibitors, several of which are international organisations.

India has been listed by Sandra Galbraith, Futurex exhibition manager, as a partner country. The UK, Czech Republic and Taiwan also have strong representation at the event.

Several conferences and seminars will take place alongside the annual business-to-business information and communications technology and electronics event.

Seminar topics include World Telecoms Day, which features a range of industry speakers. Also, professionals from country partner India will relate the 'India case study" and the E-Waste Association of SA will be discussing e-waste initiatives.

This afternoon, IT professionals and consultants have been invited by GTSP and Telspace Systems to hack a number of servers. The security features on the servers will range from basic to high-level systems, says GTSP's Jacques van Heerden.

Last year, the event attracted about 9 600 attendees in Johannesburg, and 3 900 in Cape Town.
