Latest rumours suggest the highly-anticipated Galaxy S4 handset will officially make its debut on 14 March at an event in New York.

This is according to Russian analyst and editor of Mobile-review, Eldar Murtazin, who tweeted: "Save the date for a big announcement - 14 March :) And keep silence ;) HTC will miss HTC One sales again :( Like it was in 2012." Murtazin has been known to be fairly accurate in the past.

HTC will host an event later today in New York, where it is expected to take the wraps off its new flagship smartphone, the HTC One.

Samsung fan blog, SamMobile, which has a reputation for leaking accurate information about Samsung, confirmed Murtazin's comments were about the Galaxy S4. The Verge has also reported that 14 March is "definitely" the date for the launch.

Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 8.0 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. It is expected that the design of the new tablet will foreshadow that of the Galaxy S4.

So far, Samsung has avoided any serious leaks about the device, and its design remains a closely guarded secret. The Verge reports that the new handset will emphasise features over raw specs, much like the Galaxy S3.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S4 is rumoured to feature an Exynos 5 Octa (8-Core) CPU, Mali-T678 (8-Core) GPU, Super Amoled HD display, 13MP rear-facing camera and 2MP front-facing camera. It is said it will run Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

There is another rumour that the S4 will be followed closely by a 'mini' version in May.
