Recently published Gartner Magic Quadrant reports position VERITAS Software in the leader quadrant of two major storage software markets: enterprise backup and storage area network (SAN) management.
According to John Poulter, regional director: emerging territories at VERITAS Software, the Gartner Magic Quadrants evaluate vendors in specific markets by assessing each company`s technology, service, support, features, functionality and viability. "Companies are positioned in the quadrant based on their vision and their ability to execute on that vision," he says.
In the Gartner ratings, VERITAS Software earned leader status in the enterprise backup quadrant for three consecutive years on the basis of its strength in the data protection market with products such as VERITAS NetBackup.
"Significantly, Gartner gathered its data for this report after our acquisition of The Kernel Group, a move which extends the disaster recovery capabilities of our product line considerably," notes Poulter. These extended capabilities include fully automated and accelerated system-level recovery of Windows and all major Unix platforms in the event of data corruption or hardware failure.
In the SAN Management quadrant, VERITAS Software has been recognised as a leader for the second year running.
"Our SAN management solutions include VERITAS SANPoint Control, which provides a single interface to simplify and centralise the management of heterogeneous SANs. It also supports advanced functionality for a wide selection of SAN switches, arrays and other SAN devices, enabling the storage resources in a SAN environment to be more effectively and efficiently utilised," explains Poulter.
VERITAS also offers complementary SAN software solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of backup and recovery, high availability and storage virtualisation.
"These solutions are designed to simplify the implementation and management of SANs and, unlike hardware vendors, we do not promote a specific hardware platform. Instead, we make it easier for companies to manage heterogeneous SANs using storage resources they already have," he concludes.
