EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that Gartner has recognised EMC with a "Strong Positive" rating in its newest report entitled: "MarketScope for Network Configuration and Change Management". A "Strong Positive" is the highest possible vendor rating given by Gartner.
Inana Nkanza, country manager EMC Southern Africa, says EMC believes this rating acknowledges its technology and market leadership in network configuration and change management (NCCM), a key requirement for private and public cloud models of information technology.
"EMC Ionix Network Configuration Manager provides the industry's only model-based, automated network change, configuration, and compliance management solution," he says.
To be rated positively in this report, Gartner emphasises product/services, offering (product) strategy (the vendors' approach to product development and delivery that emphasises differentiation, functionality, methodology and feature sets as they map to current and future requirements), and overall viability (business unit, financial, strategy, organisation).
According to Gartner's report: "NCCM has primarily been a labour-intensive, manual process involving remote access to individual devices and typing commands into vendor-specific command line interfaces that are fraught with the possibility for human error, or creating home-grown scripts to ease retyping requirements. With its 'just get it running' approach, the enterprise network operations team gave little consideration to rigorous configuration and change management, compliance audit or disaster recovery rollback processes when executing network configuration alterations, although though they were often the root cause of network issues. However, corporate audit and compliance initiatives are forcing a shift in requirements... A new generation of NCCM vendors have created tools that operate in multi-vendor environments, enable automated configuration management and bring more-rigorous adherence to the change management process, as well as compliance audit capability."
Ionix Network Configuration Manager is a highly automated solution that provides features, advantages, and benefits that ensure the compliance, operational efficiency, security, and availability of the network. The product makes this possible by supplying industry-recognised best-practices, enhancing collaborative network infrastructure design, verifying controlled change processes, providing network device and service configuration transparency, and ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements. The software automates support for all facets of the NCCM life cycle by seamlessly integrating critical management requirements, including: establishing baselines, standardising change processes and configuration remediation, assuring configuration compliance, proactively designing and activating network-based services, reporting and auditing configurations and compliance states, and ensuring network security.
"As IT infrastructures become increasingly complex and companies make their journey to the private cloud, the need for solutions that automate the IT infrastructure management process become increasingly important," said Jay Mastaj, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, EMC Ionix. "EMC Ionix has become an essential component helping customers on this journey - enabling them to save money, reduce errors associated with mis-configurations, automate processes, and improve efficiency and compliance. We believe this 'Strong Positive' rating by the industry experts at Gartner is further evidence that EMC Ionix solutions are resonating with the market - true confirmation that our products are delivering significant value to our customers."
