Gateway Communications recently announced that it had selected Intelsat, the leader in global satellite communications, to provide services to its PTT partners in Africa and the Middle East. The agreement will enable African corporate and home users to gain access to reliable and cost-effective voice and data services through their local service providers, even in areas where no fibre networks are installed.
According to Mike van den Bergh, MD of Gateway Communications: "We selected Intelsat to provide this service because they are the recognised leader in the satellite market place and provide an unparalleled high level of customer support and service. Intelsat`s solution offers our African operators instantaneous access to a large community of international and regional networks across the world."
The combined capabilities of Gateway`s backbone network spanning the African continent and Intelsat`s global satellite coverage will enable multinational corporations with offices in Western Europe, North America and Africa to establish a cost-effective and reliable means of voice and data communications.
"This relationship enables us to tap into Gateway`s established relationships with PTTs, cellular operators and competitive carriers across Africa, where traditional fibre networks are often unavailable and satellite networks are the only viable communications medium," said Stephen Carne, Intelsat`s Regional Director, Europe.
"The African marketplace is an extremely important emerging new market for telecommunications services. Intelsat`s and Gateway`s combined skills and resources make it possible for us to offer African carriers, businesses and residential customers a viable and efficient voice and data service."
