The Gauteng provincial government will host the first Gauteng eKasi ICT Summit to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with knowledge on the benefits of using technology in their businesses.

Entrepreneurs, technology enthusiasts and small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) are invited to be part of the summit.

Hosted by the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, the Department of E-government and the Innovation Hub, the summit encourages entrepreneurs and SMMEs to utilise technology to enhance their businesses.

According to a statement, the summit will enable government to share ideas with entrepreneurs and industry leaders on how to utilise and take advantage of the latest technology advances to improve service delivery to citizens.

"It will serve as an enabling platform to deliver practical e-business solutions and will stimulate the ICT industry by encouraging tech-focused thinking and innovations for the development of various communities," says the statement.

This year, government has been vocal on the use of technology to positively impact on the lives of everyone in the country.

Government has encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts to come up with innovative solutions that will improve local service delivery and address the challenges facing local governments.

More than 500 tech-savvy entrepreneurs are expected to attend the summit, which will be held at the Walter Sisulu Square in Soweto, Kliptown on Thursday.

Premier David Makhura, MEC for economic development Lebogang Maile and MEC for e-governance Barbara Creecy will also attend.
