The Gauteng Online Web site has been down for some time, giving visitors an error message and no reason for the downtime.
Gauteng Online spokesperson Sithembiso Ndlovu says the downtime is not due to technical problems, but due to a system upgrade.
It is not clear how long the Web site has been down for.
The site formerly carried a message, informing visitors of the system upgrade and stating content uploading will be frozen in conjunction with the scheduled upgrade.
The message has since been replaced with an error message.
The Gauteng Online Web site acts as a single point of entry to all Gauteng government Web sites, and provides information on all provincial matters, as well as contact details for the various departments.
"We are upgrading all the provincial Web sites, as well as the Gauteng Online Web site.
People looking for information from one of these Web sites are urged to call 0860 428 8364," said Ndlovu. "The Web site will be back up by Friday."
