GBI, KPMG, Hyperion join forces to boost awareness of financial management

Johannesburg, 31 Jul 2003

GBI, the business intelligence specialist, and KPMG have joined forces to boost local awareness of the need for improved financial responsibility, corporate governance and business performance management.

To highlight the increasing pressure on the group finance function, these companies are hosting a financial conference - Financial Consolidation, Reporting and Budgeting, as easy as 1, 2, 3 - on 6 August. The half-day event, to be held at 8.30am at the Indaba Hotel, Fourways, will include an international speaker in Bruno LeBlanc, Hyperion EMEA product marketing manager: reporting and consolidation.

LeBlanc will cover the anticipated impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and IAS 2005 regulatory framework on business in his presentation. He will also show how Hyperion Financial Management unifies financial reporting, analysis, modelling and planning processes in a single, extensible, Web-based application.

Guest speaker and GBI client, Willem Botha from Kumba Resources, will discuss the reasons why Kumba invested in Hyperion Planning, the market`s most successful and popular budgeting and forecasting solution. Kumba needed a comprehensive solution for planning, reporting, analysing, approving and modelling to increase enterprise-wide efficiency throughout the planning and budgeting cycle. With Hyperion Planning, Kumba can:

* Consolidate its budgeting, forecasting and target-setting process using one common set of data throughout its operations.

* Communicate and control across multi-divisional global entities.

* Lower the cost of ownership through a shorter roll-out and implementation phase, and easier maintenance of existing applications.

* Deploy a user-friendly system across the Web.

* Enhance decision-making with reporting, analysis and planning.

* Do modelling through complex rules.

* Integrate with other systems to load data.

Kumba plans to do its next budgeting and planning process with Hyperion Planning. "Today`s economy is unrelenting and unforgiving," says Marc Scheepbouwer, CEO of GBI. "It requires rapid and accurate reporting; close attention to detail; a constant figure on the pulse of the business; accurate budgeting and forecasting; transparency into the process; and accountability on the part of the chief executive and chief financial officer.

"In addition, dual-listed company executives are required to comply with new international regulations, such as the US`s Sarbanes-Oxley and Europe`s IAS 2005. They are also under unprecedented pressure to align strategy with execution. The emerging discipline of business performance management addresses all of these requirements, and Hyperion Financial Management lays the foundation for driving business in this manner."

The appropriateness of Hyperion Financial Management to South African customers is reflected in the fact that seven local organisations have committed to the solution, the highest penetration proportionally of any country.

Seating is limited: to secure your attendance, RSVP Carolyn Blair by 1 August 2003 on (011) 319 9800 or cblair@glotec.co.za. GBI is the local distributor for Hyperion. Its partnership with KPMG is an extension of a parallel partnership between KPMG and Hyperion elsewhere in the world.
