Gensec implements financial trading solution worth almost R 4 million

Johannesburg, 01 Feb 2000

Financial services group Gensec has implemented a sophisticated financial trading solution, worth almost R4 million, to enable traders to communicate in a 24-hour trading environment.

The solution, from Dimension Group audiovisual communications company Videre, encompasses a 40-seat dealerboard system, flat screens for space efficiency, and a NICE voice recorder at Gensec`s head office in Johannesburg.

"Gensec`s dealers have already experienced the added functionality and ease of use afforded by Videre`s dealerboards," says Martin Eichhoff, who project managed the installation at Gensec.

"Our new state-of-the-art trading solution provides us with remote connectivity and the necessary additional capacity for future development," says Eichhoff. "Gensec is going through rapid growth, with the number of traders increased by 35% and additional expansion still planned.

"Gensec is currently trading nationally but is looking to grow its international arm and hence needs the remote access and flexibility afforded by Videre`s trading systems," says Eichhoff.

"We chose Videre to fulfill our trading requirements as they could meet our mission critical objectives and their technology could satisfy our current and long-term requirements for performance, reliability and competitive edge," continues Eichhoff.

Videre is able to leverage not only its own in-house skills but also those of the Dimension Data Group, as well as its IPC, the global market leader in financial trading solutions. Videre is the exclusive Southern African distributor for IPC and provides integrated telecommunications equipment and services that facilitate the execution of transactions by the financial trading community.

"Videre`s competence and professionalism were displayed in the smooth implementation of our new trading system," says Eichhoff.

Videre ran IPC`s dealerboards concurrently with Gensec`s legacy system for two weeks enabling Gensec`s traders to become familiar with the new system. Over a long weekend, Videre cut over Gensec`s entire trading system to the new set-up and on the Tuesday morning went live.

"Videre had to perform the complex task of removing our old environment and getting the new one in place by opening of trade," says Eichhoff.

Gensec`s new trading solution is software based, making feature enhancements easy to implement. The dealerboards have a growth path built into them, such as redundancy and the facility for adding in Computer Integration (CTI), which means the future viability of the product is ensured. "A lot of competitive products do not offer this peace of mind as they are firmware based," says Eichhoff.
