German court dismisses Apple, Samsung cases

PC Mag reports.

Judge Andreas Voss of the Mannheim Regional Court threw out the lawsuits, CNET writes.

According to Reuters, which was first to report on the story, one of the cases the judge threw out involved a claim made by Apple that Samsung violated a slide-to-unlock patent it holds. FOSS Patents' Florian Mueller reported that the judge also threw out a patent claim Samsung brought against Apple over 3G/UMTS functionality.

However, Samsung said in a statement that it was displeased with the court's dismissal of its claim and would appeal it to the Higher Regional Court, in Karlsruhe.

The court in Karlsruhe recently handed Apple a legal success over rival Motorola Mobility in a separate dispute, saying Motorola could no longer ask Apple to halt sales of iPhone and iPad devices for now, Reuters says.

Apple is also involved in patent battles with other smartphone makers using Google's free Android platform, the fastest growing mobile operating system, which is also used on Samsung's Galaxy range.
