Gestetner Multifunctional products offer maximum productivity from a single machine

Johannesburg, 06 May 2004

Leading total document solutions provider Gestetner has extended its multifunctional product (MFP) portfolio with the DSm635 (35ppm) and DSm645 (45ppm). These easy-to-use machines offer printing, copying, scanning and faxing, together with advanced document workflow and management features, in a single, space-saving device.

The ability to handle multiple document tasks through this central communications portal optimises efficiency and productivity, whilst also reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO). It is an ideal choice for document communications in a large workgroup of between 10 and 30 users.

"These devices act as all round communication portals for both IT managers and users. IT managers will benefit as both devices are fully compatible with the network for seamless integration into existing IT infrastructures and users can perform a range of jobs from one machine," explains Anthony Ho, Gestetner SA product support manager. "Both devices significantly optimise workflow by providing users with a number of intuitive features that streamline the document process. Since both machines are easy-to-use and combine a range of technological advancements, users will immediately see the benefits of using an MFP device to produce professional-looking business documents, maximising personal efficiency levels."

Both the DSm635 and DSm645 include communication, security and device management features, providing an end-to-end service for document workflow within your organisation. Furthermore, Scan-to-Email, Scan-to-Folder and paperless faxing facilitate easy digital distribution of documents, enhancing user productivity and efficiency.

Scan-to-Email enables users to send documents directly from the control panel to multiple recipients, providing a fast, easy and cost-effective alternative to international faxing at the touch of a button. By using Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) technology, in conjunction with Scan-to-Email, these devices automatically update themselves with the latest e-mail addresses on the mail server, eliminating the need for IT managers to spend time configuring individual machines.

Additionally, organisations will benefit from the security features that require a password to access the Scan-to-Email function.

The Scan-to-Folder feature enables large documents to be transferred directly to a specified network folder or FTP site. This helps reduce e-mail traffic, ensuring secure distribution when sharing documents across the network. Combined with the intuitive touch-screen control panel, including an icon-based menu, users are easily guided step-by-step through the scanning functions for maximum productivity.

Both Scan-to-Email and Scan-to-Folder save users time by enabling hard copy documents to be quickly and easily converted to digital format - such as pdf and tif files- for e-mail distribution.

The paperless fax feature stores incoming faxes into memory. They can then be easily viewed, printed, forwarded to another user, deleted or downloaded onto the PC via a Web browser. Saving time and paper, this feature along with Scan-to-Email and Scan-to-Folder, streamlines the document distribution process.

Pre-installed and easily accessed through a standard Web browser, Web Image Monitor streamlines administration for the IT manager who can easily monitor and change network settings from the comfort of their PC. Web Image Monitor saves time for IT managers, as software only needs to be installed once, rather than on every PC on the network. This software also benefits users as they can view, print or download documents, such as frequently used templates and forms stored on the Document Server within the device. This eliminates the need for frequently printed documents to be stored as hardcopy or on local PCs and eases traffic on the network. Web Image Monitor software enables users to check paper and toner levels, as well as the job status, without leaving their desks, further boosting productivity levels.

Further enhancing the document output process is a versatile range of Paper-handling features, which are available on both devices and can be used to create professional looking double-sided documents, ideal for everyday reports and business communications. Users can choose from a number of functions to create different types of documents. This includes the finishing options of a booklet finisher, stapler and hole punch features.

"As the communications hub of the workplace, these MFPs will truly enhance and bring added value to the document input, throughput and output process," says Ho.

Gestetner offers an advanced range of MFPs that combine the functionality of advanced digital copiers with those of network printers, network scanners and faxes. "With the significant advantages of network connectivity and the flexibility of the MFP`s combined options, Gestetner is capable of matching all their clients` needs every time, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, with a single, reliable and high quality package," concludes Ho.
