Bytes Managed Solutions, the exclusive distributor of NCR solutions for the retail, financial, hospitality, entertainment and other sectors, has introduced dual-sided printing functionality to the South African market.
“NCR's two-sided thermal printing uses dual, thermal printheads within a single thermal printer to deliver high-impact, customisable messages on both sides of thermal paper rolls and labels,” says Alan Anderson, business development director at Bytes Managed Solutions. “By printing on the back of the receipt, you can reduce costs, promote products and services and benefit from improved customer satisfaction and return on investment.”
Dual-sided printing offers users the best of both worlds. It enables thermal coating - which does not change - on both sides of receipts, as well as offering an affordable one-sided colour option. Both simple and high-resolution options are also available.
The technology improves operational efficiency by saving time at the front-end of the business and ensuring that fewer roll changes are needed during peak times. Paper investment is reduced by between 5% and 25%, depending on receipt format, length and paper grade. Paper usage has been shown to decrease by up to 45%. Freight and storage fees are also reduced as a result, with storage savings of up to 23% having been achieved.
“From the customer's point of view, the receipt is shorter and more manageable, and more environmentally friendly,” adds Anderson. “It can also be used as a promotional tool, with colour being used to draw customers' attention. Promotions can be changed daily or by transaction.”
The speed of the technology allows for improved throughput, resulting in faster transactions and happier customers. It can also help reduce the number of checkout points required.
The transactions are quieter as there are fewer moving parts. User access is simplified with NCR's “drop-in and go” paper loading. Maintenance costs are reduced as there are no ribbon or cartridge replacements, and repairs are less complicated, leading to lower total cost of ownership. Because it's easy to use, training time is minimal.
