The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) recently unveiled its revamped and improved website (www.gibs.co.za), a collaborative effort with FLUX.
While offering all the must have information about GIBS, like news, information about its academic programmes, conferences and forum events, as well as downloadable brochures etc, the new website also provides an online platform for students and GIBS staff to interact and share valuable knowledge - the 'life blood' of an academic institution.
Understanding the immense value of communication with current and prospective students, GIBS wanted its new website to be rich in interactive features. The functionality allows for a 'virtual campus', which users are encouraged to visit on a regular basis to share thoughts and insights with lecturers and each other. In addition users have access to the wealth of information GIBS has available in support of their study programmes and career development, including research reports, case studies and articles about the science of business - only one mouse-click away.
"We wanted to develop a user experience that broke with convention. The new website had to significantly enhance communications, allowing us to get closer to our stakeholders, as well as support our own staff, allowing them to easily update and edit content on the website," says Sue Swart, marketing director at GIBS.
The website boasts the following interactive features:
* A discussion board where relevant topics of the day are discussed
* The 'Insight'-blog with weekly thought provoking topics, an associated MP3 download, which users can download and listen to in their 'dead time', ie while driving or exercising, as well as the opportunity to then post their comments and read what other users have posted
* 'Contact us' where comments or questions can be sent to GIBS requesting a reply
* A mailing list to which users can subscribe for regular notifications of upcoming events, programmes and news, and
* An 'e-Mail this page'-option for sharing content on the GIBS website with friends or colleagues.
When visiting the new website, users will immediately recognise the warm and familiar colours, which is so distinctive of the GIBS campus in Illovo. The design reflects the essence of GIBS - the calming and friendly atmosphere on campus, where students and staff feel at home and comfortable to interact and grow.
"From a usability point of view the WebEasy content management system, on which the website is built, enables content owners to easily maintain content they are responsible for by editing, publishing and archiving current and new content - thereby keeping the site content fresh and up-to-date," adds Werner le Roux, managing director of FLUX.
FLUX works with Sue Purbrick from Sue Purbrick & Associates on all the GIBS online initiatives.
