Gigahertz ThinkPad soon to arrive at SDD

Johannesburg, 09 Apr 2001

SDD has announced that it expects considerable demand for the recently announced IBM ThinkPad notebooks, now equipped with Intel's fastest-ever mobile processor, the Pentium3 at 1 Gigahertz.

According to Shawn van der Merwe, product manager for IBM notebooks and PCs at SDD, IBM has introduced new A, T and X models that will address every mobile need. "Select models of the A and T Series are powered by the new Mobile Intel Pentium3 1GHz SpeedStep processor, making these IBM's fastest ever ThinkPads," he declares.

According to van der Merwe, the new A Series models - the A22p and A22m - include many of the capabilities of a desktop workstation with the flexibility of a mobile PC. "These machines are designed for mobile users who take their work with them. Features bound to make these popular include high-resolution screens as large as 15 inches, a full-sized keyboard, expansion options and superior graphics capabilities," he says.

With a 14.1 inch screen and weighing in at a mere 2,4 kg, the ThinkPad T22 provides an optimum balance of performance and portability.

Designed for road warriors who spend a significant time away from the office, the X Series ultraportable models start as light as 1.4kg. "Capitalising on Intel's power-saving processors, battery life on these tiny machines has been extended to almost five hours, despite the tiny form factor.

"Adding to the improved performance and battery life of the new ThinkPads is a range of accessories, including the IBM UltraBay, designed to make these machines first choice for the discerning mobile user," concludes van der Merwe.
