Global Africa Projects (GAP), the Centurion (South Africa) headquartered project management company with a technology infrastructure focus, has announced the setting up of a comprehensive SOS call centre facility in Maputo, Mozambique. GAP acted as the project managers in the installation of the call centre.
Ian McKechnie, managing director of GAP, confirmed that the call centre will be used, inter alia, for reacting to emergencies on the Mozambican stretch of the EN4 road, stretching from Ressano Garcia near Komaatipoort, to Maputo. This forms part of the Maputo Corridor tollroad development by concessionaire Trans-African Concessions (Trac) and main contractor SBB. He adds that more than 40 roadside emergency telephones have recently been installed along this section of the road by the contractor.
This is the first time that such a call handling and response service has been available in Mozambique, said McKechnie. As such, it represents a tangible benefit of the Maputo Corridor toll road project. It is anticipated that the call centre capability and capacity will be further developed by the centre operator, with application beyond just the road response system.
