Global Technology acquires Associated Computer Solutions in strategic software deal

Johannesburg, 17 Apr 2001

JSE-listed Global Technology Limited, a leading provider of comprehensive software solutions to the financial services sector, has acquired Associated Computer Solutions (ACS), with the intention of creating a world class banking Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution that integrates with the GLOBUS banking system. GLOBUS, developed by TEMENOS Holdings NV, is rated by the International Banking Systems review as the top selling core banking system for three successive years.

Ray Leonard, CEO of Global Technology says, "A major requirement in financial services organisations is to deploy more integrated systems. The proven capability of ACS in the demanding ERP marketplace provides us with a solid base from which to develop a comprehensive Financial ERP system. In addition, the extremely strong customer base which ACS already has, will benefit from the Global Technology offerings, and we expect a strong upswing in the ACS traditional business space."

"With ACS sharing the same technology base as Global Technology, we are able to develop a financial ERP system that covers operational and strategic requirements. The TEMENOS jBase database technology allows us to offer the system on multiple platforms, including IBM 390 Mainframe and AS400."

"In some form or other, Global Technology interacts with over 200 banks in over 30 countries in Africa. This acquisition is part of our quest to provide the most comprehensive enterprise banking solution. It emphasises our unique position as a provider of integrated banking systems components," concludes Leonard.

Mike Stefanski, managing director of ACS says, "Global Technology and ACS are both services orientated companies and we therefore understand and relate to each other`s business challenges and opportunities. The interfacing of these two products and the complementary skills of the two companies, will provide Global Technology with the opportunity to sell the ERP products into the financial services market place instead of using a third party. It will also enable ACS to embrace business offshore and become an international ERP player."

ACS has established itself as one of the leading South African software houses in providing innovative and flexible solutions in the areas of interactive financial, distribution and manufacturing systems. The company has a proven track record with a significant number of midsize and large blue chip organisations as customers.

"Every company in the financial, manufacturing and distribution environment needs a stable backbone from an IT perspective. As a result, ERP systems will continue to remain a necessity in everyday life," says Stefanski.

"We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Global Technology and are especially excited about the opportunity of interfacing the ACS EMBRACE product with Global Technology`s products."

ACS will remain an independent organisation, but will interact closely on a vertical level with Global Technology on all EMBRACE and GLOBUS sales opportunities. ACS visualises the banking environment as a very specific vertical market, while continuing with its traditional distribution and manufacturing business sector sales and implementations.
